Costa Blanca has always been a great destination for golfers due to its more than 30 golf courses to choose from.

Costa Blanca south golf courses are some of the oldest ones in the region such as Villamartín, Campoamor and Las Ramblas among some other very prestigious also all of them just within a few kilometres from the coastline.

In Murcia, there are more than 12 excellent golf courses apart from the world famous La Manga golf Resort all of them within easy reach from the San Javier airport or Alicante airport.

The front nine holes can be considered more technical on the shot to the green, the short game will be very useful in order to save the par. The course has nine holes, six par threes and three par fours with a short distance (2.940m from the yellows and 3.236m from the whites; 2.432m from the reds and 2.776m from the blues) . The duration of a round of 9 holes is approx one hour and a half and for 18 holes, just three hours. The variety of grass “Bermuda” dominates the field.

 

Most of the holes have large greens, protected by strategically placed bunkers. Several of the holes are surrounded by trees throughout the course and with the constant sea breeze, it makes perfect golfing in the summer.

The course is a gently sloping 9 hole course with well-maintained greens and fairways flanked by palm trees, pine trees and orange trees. Although it has only 9 holes, on the second time around or back nine, many of the holes are played from different tees making it virtually an 18 hole course. Also the 4th / 13th green is large enough to accommodate two separate pin positions for each hole.

 

Although it is not very long, it is certainly challenging as it is plagued by bunkers nearly all the way round – 34 in total, and all of the greens have subtle runs, many of which are difficult to read.

Llebeig

 

The first 9 holes are oriented towards the South. In Valencian language, this name is the warm wind from the Sahara, which causes tropical and dry air masses. These holes, running between huge masses of pine are characterized by its scenic beauty with spectacular views of the natural park of Montgó. Technically difficult this is a varied course where the player will have to use almost all clubs.

 

Gregal

 

The second 9 holes lead eastwards and owes its name to ancient times where this wind was used by ships to go to Greece. Located in a more flat land, this course adds more presence of water to the game and with the last holes of the golf course designed to be decisive for the score.

 

Mestral

 

Coming from the North, this cold wind, feared by farmers, allocates the new 9 holes. Three pairs 3, 4 and 5, situated in a higher area than most other holes of the course, these holes offer a spectacular view on the sea, the Segaria mountain and the natural park of Montgó. With wider fairways and large Greens, this course is designed to enjoy golf in full nature.

Designed and built by Seve Ballesteros, the Oliva Nova Golf Club course is a par 72 links course of 6,350 m with a slope of 120, the main characteristic of which is that 15 of its 18 holes include water obstacles. The only holes that have no water obstacles are numbers 2, 13 and 14.

 

A technical course, with a gentle undulating terrain, easy to walk on, formed by the traditional four pars 3, four pars 5 and ten pars 4 formula where the shots are rewarded and the bad ones are punished, in Severiano’s own words:

 

“This course offers great possibilities to all golfers, as it has short, medium and long holes, and fairways with left and right doglegs. I think it poses a challenge to any golfer.” The amen corner of the course is at the 13th, 14th and 15th holes, where strategy and the wind are determining factors.

Villaitana Golf was formerly known as Real de Faula. This Jack Nicklaus design is made up of two great golf courses. The Levante course is a championship length test of golf. The Poniente is a shorter golf course, more suited to beginners but still a great course to play, whatever your ability. The Levante course is well worth playing, if your looking for a quality golf course in the Costa Blanca North / Benidorm area.

 

Levante – The Levante is a US-style golf course spread out over an area of more than 80 hectares. Slightly shorter than the South, with tighter fairways and larger greens, the North Course offers a different, yet no less challenging, round of golf. A feature of the greens, all built to USGA specification, is the amount of movement incorporated in them, none more so than the short Par 3, 2nd, which has three distinct plateaux – a great test of putting. Relying on precision rather than length, an added challenge is provided by the wide variety of water hazards and ‘barrancas’ that snake their way through the course.

 

South Course

 

The Championship course at La Manga Club, the South, is probably one of the fairest tests of golf one can find. At 6,499 metres from the White Tees, whilst being accepted as a top-calibre tournament course, it also provides a thorough test both for the scratch player and right across the handicap range.

 

Located in the centre of the valley, with wide palm-fringed fairways and water hazards that come into play on 15 of the 18 holes, the South Course holds few hidden dangers.

 

West Course

 

Set amid serene pine woodlands, the West Course’s design closely follows the natural contours of the undulating land. Its distinct character makes it a good alternative to the other, more classical championship courses.

 

It is a deceiving course, with frequent changes in elevation with which to contend. The tight front nine demands accurate driving to avoid the ‘barrancas’ (natural storm gullies) while the back nine, up amongst the hills, is more open but nonetheless challenging.

David Thomas designed the first nine holes of Mar Menor Village Golf, par 37 of 3,275 meters as its greatest distance. It demands good strokes to put the ball on its courses with hardly any rough, its greens are well protected by bunkers and by the water of the lakes around the course.

 

The second nine holes that were designed by Nicklaus Design are par 35 of 2,878 m, as its greatest distance, it has wide courses and wide roughs that allow big strokes. The spectacular lake around holes 13,14 and 15 deserves special mention, making the water the greatest obstacle to be overcome. The rest of the holes are protected by strategic bunkers.

The course’s stunning landscaping is the result of careful planning and technical expertise. Dave Thomas, one of the most prestigious European golf designers created the 18-hole, par 72 golf course. The layout was created by combining different environments and adaptating to the Mediterranean landscape and vegetation.

The Luna brothers and their course designer Felipe Rodríguez have worked together to produce, what is not only a spectacular design but also a great engineering project. The course has an 18 hole layout and a driving range for up to 15 players at any one time with a a fully equipped caddyshack for golf tuition including video analysis as well as technical help.

 

The course ranges from 6,201 metres in length from the white “tiger” tees to 5,050 metres from the reds. The course, is located in a valley that is isolated from any urban environment and within a perfectly preserved Mediterranean forest. The wide presence of different types of pine trees as well as a large collection of shrub species, makes the environment a natural refuge for a large number of animal, birds and even some types of amphibians.
